I grew up in Devon not far from the sea & my heart will always be close to it. I moved away to study Costume Design in Bournemouth so I could still be by the sea, but needed to leave the sea behind when I moved to London to study BA Fine Art (Mixed Media) & then went on to do a PGCE in Art & Design so I could teach within secondary & further education. I became Head of Art after a few years & trained in teaching Design & Technology.

I started Abilu Creations in 2006 after feeling the need to follow my own creative path. I went to Camden Lock Market with a bunch of feather accessories & set up stall where I was until 2012.

I now live just outside Dorking in the Surrey Hill's with my wonderful husband and 2 gorgeous children. I am a natural creator, it surrounds me and it’s something that will always be apart of me, it sets me free! It wasn't until moving back to the countryside that I realised how much London had stifled my creativity. Casting is something that I was very fond of as a student casting skateboards in chocolate and recreating reliefs of sweets among many other things. I used to teach the process within my lessons where possible to engage students and captivate them into the subject. I am now loving getting back to my roots, getting messy & experimenting for myself.

I have always had a love of vintage & antiques and the sense of mystery that beholds them, the stories they may hold that will never be told. I love to recycle materials & my creations reflect this, I have the ability to see purpose in things most people would throw away.

Teaching is still a passion of mine and I am currently part of the Tutor team at Surrey Art School. Have a look at my Teaching page for more info on classes & tutoring.
